These systems do not use pumps or controllers but rely on natural convection or gravity to circulate water or heat-transfer fluids through the collectors and into the storage tank. They are generally simpler in design and have fewer components.

These panels or tubes absorb sunlight and convert it into heat, transferring this heat to the water or heat-transfer fluid.

The heated water or heat-transfer fluid is stored in an insulated tank for later use.

In indirect systems, the heat exchanger transfers the heat from the fluid in the collectors to the water in the storage tank.
